Planned Giving for a Children's Cancer Nonprofit Serving New England

A planned gift to Love Bus is one of the most meaningful ways to ensure that New England families facing childhood cancer always have somewhere to turn. Whether you give through a donor-advised fund, a stock transfer, or a charitable bequest, your legacy funds free integrative therapy for children and families who need it — with the added benefit of giving in a financially thoughtful way.

Love Bus is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and fully eligible to receive all forms of planned gifts. We have operated continuously since 2006 with stable financials, growing hospital partnerships, and a mission that is as focused today as it was when we began.

Donor-Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund (DAF) lets you make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit, and recommend grants to organizations like Love Bus over time. If you have an existing DAF, recommending a distribution to Love Bus is straightforward — and Love Bus is fully eligible to receive it.

Step 1: Confirm eligibility

Love Bus is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our legal name is Love Bus (formerly Lucy's Love Bus). Our EIN is 20-4036256.

Step 2: Log in to your DAF account

Access your account through your sponsoring organization — Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, or another provider — and search for Love Bus or enter our EIN directly.

Step 3: Recommend your grant

Submit your distribution recommendation through your DAF platform. Once your sponsoring organization approves it, funds are sent directly to Love Bus. Contact our team if you would like to discuss how your gift will be directed.

DAF gifts may carry tax advantages compared to direct cash giving. Consult your financial advisor for guidance specific to your situation.

Stock gifts

Donating appreciated stock directly to Love Bus can be more financially efficient than selling the stock and donating the cash proceeds. A direct stock transfer may allow you to avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation while receiving a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the shares at the time of transfer.

How to donate stock to Love Bus:

Step 1: Contact our team first

Reach out before initiating any transfer so we can provide our brokerage account details and ensure your gift is properly attributed to you.

Step 2: Instruct your brokerage to transfer shares directly

Do not sell the shares before transferring — a direct transfer is required to receive the full potential tax benefit. Your brokerage will need our account information, which our team will provide.

Step 3: Confirm receipt and acknowledgment

We will notify you when the transfer is complete and provide a written gift acknowledgment for your tax records.

Stock gifts of any size are welcome. Contact our team to receive transfer instructions.

Legacy and Bequest Giving

A charitable bequest is a gift made through your will or estate plan that directs a portion of your assets to Love Bus after your lifetime. It requires no outlay today, can be revised as your circumstances change, and creates a legacy that continues funding free integrative therapy for New England children with cancer for years to come.

Suggested bequest language:

"I give to Love Bus (EIN: 20-4036256), a nonprofit corporation located in Amesbury, Massachusetts, [the sum of $___ / ___% of my estate / the remainder of my estate] to be used in support of its charitable mission."

We encourage you to share your intentions with our team so we can express our gratitude during your lifetime and ensure your wishes are honored. All bequest intentions are held in complete confidence.

A charitable bequest may reduce the taxable value of your estate. Consult your estate planning attorney or financial advisor for guidance specific to your situation.

Ready to Start a Conversation?

Planned gifts almost always begin with a conversation, and we welcome that at any stage — whether you are exploring options for the first time or ready to move forward. Our team is here to answer questions, provide the information your advisor may need, and make the process as clear and simple as possible.

Suggested language is provided above, and our team is happy to work with your estate planning attorney to make the process straightforward.

  • Can I recommend a distribution from my donor-advised fund to Love Bus?

Yes. Love Bus is a registered 501(c)(3) fully eligible to receive DAF distributions from any sponsoring organization. Log in to your DAF account, search for Love Bus or use our EIN (20-4036256) and any additional information your provider requires.

  • What are the benefits of donating stock to a children's cancer nonprofit?

Your financial advisor can confirm what applies to your specific situation.

  • Is Love Bus a stable organization that will still be here to honor my legacy gift?

Love Bus has operated continuously since 2006 with stable finances, formal hospital partnerships at MGH, Baystate, UMass Memorial, and Hasbro Children's Hospital, and a diversified funding model. We publish annual financial reports and welcome any due diligence conversations before a planned gift is finalized.
